What we see is that the type of offering, entertainment and content is changing dramatically. It is going well beyond Hollywood content offering things that are more in the areas of special interest. Music in different ways is becoming important, combined with video and artworks that create moods. The second thing is that people are carrying around mobile devices for content and communication and they need some kind of docking station to feed their portable devices and use them via entertainment systems in guestrooms. Communication is changing. The telephone is becoming a different device from what it was before, because it is no longer used for long distance calls, as people use their mobile phones. But if we bring in extra functionality, which the mobile phone cannot do, it’s becoming a new device. The phone is being reinvented.

Could you please outline Deuromedia’s “dRooms” offering?

Our TV and Radio server enables all international Free To Air and encrypted channels and Radio stations receivable via Satellite to be available in each guest room. For international guests, the high performance electronic programme guide shows an overview of TV and radio channels combined with available movies in the guest’s own language. Movies are available via Video on Demand functionality (start, stop, trace, quick play…). All entertainment content (movies, music, games, etc.) is updated automatically by existing satellite systems or via the Internet. TV and video delivery is all available in High Definition. Guests can also play their own DVDs thanks to our unique system. Audio on Demand offers albums stored on a digital server, accessible in the same way as the video library. For business visitors, Internet and e-mail can be accessed via their notebook computer (CAT5 wired connection or WLAN) in each guest room, as well as in open areas and conference rooms. For leisure guests, speed Surfing and e-mail is available over the TV screen via infrared remote control.
